The Most Important Question in Our Country Today…
This will not be a long article. The thought process behind the central premise will be very clear and obvious. As most utterly profound statements are, further explanation would only be extraneous.
Let me set the stage for the question…
Let’s take a Red State like Texas – a state with a Republican Governor, Republican Legislature, Republican Attorney General, and a Republican Supreme Court - and hypothetically think about what would happen if Governor Abbott (R-TX) declared they were suspending all future elections. ‘There will be no more elections! The Texas Republican Party will now appoint all public offices (including Representatives to Congress and U.S. Senators) and will choose our electors to the Electoral College every four years to vote for the President of the United States.’
You say, “Wait a minute, Bill! That would never fly… the Texas Constitution requires elections.”
Ok, so a Texas citizen goes to court – even appeals it all the way to the Texas Supreme Court –and the court rules in the governor’s favor. What now?
“Well… well, you’d have to go to the Supreme Court of the United States!” you say.
Ok, and then the Supreme Court refuses to hear the case due to standing (or, some such BS excuse)…What then?
“Well, uh, um… that could just never happen! There would have to be elections! The people wouldn’t stand for it!”
Really? So, what if Governor Abbott holds a secret election and declares himself the winner with 99% of the vote?
“Well, that wouldn’t be a real election,” you say, “It would be a sham…” and you would be right.
So, here is the most important question in our country today…
What Is the Difference Between No Elections and a Sham Election?
Perhaps the second most important question is, ‘What are you willing to do about it?’
